Restoring History Through Custom Metal Fabrication

Historic buildings tell the story of a city. Restoring them requires craftsmanship, precision, and respect for the original architecture. Every new component must blend seamlessly with the existing structure while meeting modern fabrication and finishing standards.

Iron Age Manufacturing Ltd. was proud to contribute to the restoration of Vancouver's historic First Baptist Church, working in collaboration with The Haebler Group.

Custom Fabrication for a Heritage Interior

As part of this restoration project, Iron Age fabricated and finished custom decorative metal pipes for the church's organ façade.

Although these architectural elements appear simple once installed, achieving a consistent appearance required careful fabrication, preparation, finishing, and quality control throughout the production process.

Every pipe was individually prepared to ensure uniform dimensions, a consistent finish, and a clean installation.

From the Shop to the Sanctuary

The project began in our fabrication shop, where the decorative pipes were cut, prepared, and inspected before moving into the finishing stage.

Each component was then suspended individually inside our finishing booth, allowing the coating to be applied evenly across every surface. This process helped produce a consistent decorative metallic finish while protecting the components during handling and installation.

Once completed, the finished pipes were delivered for installation as part of the restored organ façade.

Preserving Architectural Character

One of the unique challenges of heritage restoration is ensuring that newly fabricated elements complement the existing architecture rather than compete with it.

The completed decorative pipes integrate naturally with the church's historic woodwork and architectural detailing, contributing to a restored interior that respects the building's original character while incorporating newly fabricated components.
